Unveiled Arts previews Living Room show
Memphis-bred songstress Megan Reilly is a lady of extremes: her spectrum of inspiration ranges from Loretta Lynn to Thin Lizzy. She does it full-out. Her star-studded live band has included Steve Goulding of the Mekons, From Pere Ubu, Tony Maimone and guitarist James Mastro. The lightness of her voice makes the searching, yearning motifs on her most recent album, Let Your Ghost Go, come as an enigmatic surprise. Her achingly beautiful ballads are some of the finest alt-country around. — Lauren Murphy July 16 2011

"Reilly will often be compared to those who came before her—as artists always are—but she is no imitation Cat Power or Jenny Lewis or Neko Case or (insert favorite female singer-songwriter here). Though she too traffics in soulful folk in an achingly beautiful voice—her timbre is singular, distinguished by a sincere innocence. Her plaintive pleas ring with uncorrupted purity and lack the cynical edge heard in some of her peers’. At the same time, Reilly balances that childlike, wide-eyed simplicity with grace and sophistication. She can turn up the volume and cry out tragically, raising the hair on the back of your neck. And her sugar-sweet Southern drawl can be wielded like a secret weapon." David Callicott
L Magazine Where Are They Now?
getting updated on last years crop of must hear NYC bands "Megan Reilly ››› Our favorite of all the New York City country-folk singers, Reilly has continued working the club circuit, winning the affection of show-goers, fellow musicians and critics all over the place. She has the kind of voice you don’t come across very often — the kind that’s powerful and intimate at the same time. If there’s anyone doing this better in New York City or anywhere else for that matter, we’d sure like to know." M Conklin May 8 2007
Best in 2006
Let Your Ghost Go Best in 2006 Under the Radar "Megan Reilly has the voice of an angel; as lovely as Loretta Lynns best; Covering some of rocks finest songwriters like Thin Lizzys Phil Lynott, Van Morrison and Bob Dylan take guts, and Reilly obviously has the grace and goods to do it."
